GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Criteria in order to get a scholarship from the french government for your children, are the followings :

  • To hold French nationality,
  • To reside in Japan with - at least - one of his parents,
  • To be registered with the Consular Section of the French Embassy in Tokyo,
  • To be aged at least 3 years old on 31th of December of the year of enrolment,
  • To be enrolled at LFI Tokyo in a class from kindergarten to senior high school.

Meeting these conditions does not automatically entitle you to a scholarship : allocation and amount depend on the resources and expenses of the household. The application for a scholarship must be accompanied by all the necessary supporting documents asked by the French Embassy in Tokyo.
Moreover, the Embassy scholarship committee reserved the right to ask family for additional information if necessary.

The scholarship application will only be valid for the next school year, indeed, the scholarship application has to be renewed each year.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

You can collect the scholarship application at the office of Virginie SAKAI (B-023) - or directly at the French Embassy in Tokyo (service closed in the afternoon).

The scholarship application has to be submitted personally by either parent to the Consular Section of the French Embassy. To make this deposit, please make an appointment by phone (03-5798-6091/6090) or by e-mail.

AEFE member

 

The Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) is a public establishment under the authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that was created by the Act of 6 July 1990. It coordinates and manages the French education network abroad and has two missions: to ensure that there is continuity in the public education service for French children outside of France and to help spread French language and culture abroad. This school network, which is unique in the world, is made up of 522 educational establishments with almost 370,000 students from nursery school to the end of secondary school in 139 countries. The quality and uniformity of the teaching provided in these schools as well as their values are what makes this network, which is the largest of its kind in the world, so unique.

Schools are either directly managed (gestion directe), contracted (conventionné) or accredited (homologué). The schools provide an education based on the French national curriculum for pupils of various cultures from preschool through secondary school, and some receive substantial financial support from the French government. The schools provide an education leading to a baccalauréat, and students have access to all other French schools at their own educational level.

The education provided in French primary and secondary schools is innovative, open to the culture and language of the host countries, and provides enhanced foreign-language teaching from nursery school onwards. It prepares students for their future as multilingual and multicultural citizens and actors in open societies. The schools in the network must thus reconcile a French-style education with international-standard teaching, promotion of the French language with the development of multilingualism, and teaching which focuses on success for all and achieving excellence. The results are a testament to this excellence, with a baccalauréat pass rate of 97%, two-thirds of which are with honours.

The AEFE network emphasizes multilingualism, citizenship education, playing sports, teaching science, philosophy and the culture of engagement.

French teaching centres abroad, by teaching students from many different nationalities and cultures, have a deep sense of respect for others and inclusion. The AEFE supports greater consideration for students with special educational needs and is committed to enforcing the concept of inclusive schooling.

The French educational system abroad is extended through a French alumni network (AFLM) which aims to maintain bonds of friendship and solidarity between all the people who have passed through it. This network is estimated to contain 600,000 alumni and has the potential to be hugely influential, as many alumni, both French and non-French and across the generations, hold distinguished positions in a wide variety of activities around the world: politics, the economy, higher education, the media and culture. These people are the best ambassadors for our educational model and often forge strong links with the French language and culture. Some well-known alumni include Carlos Ghosn (Lebanon), Boutros Boutros-Ghali (Egypt), Ingrid Betancourt (Colombia), Jodie Foster (United States), Marjane Satrapi (Austria), Jonathan Littell (United States) and Atiq Rahimi (Afghanistan).

Health

 

The objectives of our service are the prevention of individual and collective illnesses and health problems.

Our missions are:

  • The reception of the pupil who needs physical, psychological or relational care during the school day.
  • The prevention of communicable diseases at school by applying health protocols.
  • The control of chronic diseases, diets and psychological problems of the students by following the indications of the attending physician or therapist.
  • Health education through Prevention and Health Education Programmes (Food, Drug Addiction, AIDS, Sexuality...) in collaboration with teachers' representatives and parents.
  • Screening for anomalies that may have an impact on schooling, during school health examinations carried out on students in PS, CP, CM and 6th grade.

Our infirmary consists of two nurses. It is open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm from Monday to Friday.

REGULATIONS OF THE INFIRMARY

As a reminder, please do not forget than a child cannot come to school under the following conditions:

  • Fever : if your child has a temperature higher than 37.5°, he must stay at home at least 24 hours after the temperature has normalized.
  • Conjunctivitis : if your child's eyes are red and itchy and/or have purulent discharge, you should consult your doctor before sending him/her to school.
  • Rash : If your child has a rash that has an unknown cause or is possibly related to a contagious disease, you should check with your doctor before sending your child to school.
  • Severe cold: If your child has a "bad cold" with a runny nose and severe headache, nausea or cough, he or she should stay home.
  • Sore throat : if the sore throat is mild with any other bad sign, your child can come to school. If the sore throat is persistent and accompanied by white or red spots in the back of the throat / or if it is accompanied by fever, you should consult your doctor. 
  • Diarrhoea and/or vomiting within 24 hours : your child must stay at home at least 24 hours after the last episode.
PUNCTUAL MEDICAL TREATMENT WITHIN THE SCHOOL

The purpose of this document is to describe how to use prescribed medication on a short-term basis or in the context of an PAI.

It is essential to note that Japanese law does not allow any medical act in a school.

As a reminder, in French schools, the legislation indicates that the administration of medication under a medical prescription is carried out only for chronic conditions, which require the use of an PAI.

In order to comply with Japanese law, nurse and educators can only assist a student in taking his/her medical treatment.

PUNCTUAL TREATMENT

We recommend that parents ask doctor to postpone medication taking by their child outside of school hours.

Taking of medication within the LFI Tokyo will only be authorized upon presentation of a prescription and after signature of the discharge document by the legal guardian, insofar as the pathology of your child requires the taking of medication during school time. The medication must be taken in the presence of a nurse or an educator.

In the presence of the nurse, pupils on medication have to :

  • Give their medication(s) to the nurse as soon as they arrive at school
  • Report to the nurse time schedule  of taking the medication.
  • The pupil will take his/her medication and the nurse will have to inform his/her parents by email.

In case of absence of the nurse (school outing, nature class...), students must :

  • Give their medication(s) to a teacher 
  • The child will take his medicine according to the time indicated.
CHRONIC DISEASES

When registering in the school, we ask you to fill in the PAI form.This document allows us to set up a protocol adapted to your child and to take care of him/her quickly in case of emergency.

WHAT IS A PAI ?

PAI aims to facilitate the reception at school of children or adolescents with chronic medical problems (asthma, allergies, food intolerance, dyslexia, diabetes...). 

WHO IS CONCERNED ?

A PAI can be set up for any child attending LFI Tokyo from kindergarten to high school.

ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

The PAI is a written document, drawn up at the request of the family or the headmaster (with the family's agreement and participation), based on the data transmitted by the doctor treating the child.

PERIOD OF VALIDITY

The PAI is related to the pathology or disorder found during the school year. It can therefore be established for a period ranging from a few days to a school year.

ILLNESS - SCHOOL ACCIDENT
ALLERGIES

According to the regulations of the health service of Kita-ku, children allergic to gluten and/or flour have to come to school with their own bento.

In case of any food allergy, a medical certificate must be provided to the nurse. A PAI could be set up if necessary. In order to avoid any risk of serious allergic reaction in some pupils, please make sure that the snack does not contain peanuts or nuts.

We would like to remind you that your children can not bring to school any snacks containing these above ingredients in order to not endanger our allergic students.

DECLARATION OF DISEASES

Any communicable disease, as soon as it is known, have to be reported to the school infirmary.

Examples :

  • Conjunctivitis (Hayarime/Ketsumakuen)
  • Whooping cough (Hyakunichizeki)
  • Flu (Influenza)
  • Rubella (Fushin)
  • Measles (Mashin)
  • Slapped cheek disease or acute erythema infectiosum (Ringobyo)
  • Streptococcal/Scarpathian infection (Yorenkin)
  • Chicken pox (Mizuboso)
  • Te-ashi-kuchi-byo (Te-ashi-kuchi-byo) foot-hand-to-mouth syndrome

In case of flu, and according to Japanese law, your child cannot come to the school at least 5 days after declaring symptoms.

  • We remind you that in case of infectious diseases, you should remember to check with your doctor :
  • the possible date of return to school
  • the date of the control visit (if necessary)
  • the duration of medication intake

According to Japanese law, you need a doctor's certificate authorizing your child to return to school. It must be completed at the first visit or at the follow-up visit.

VACCINATIONS

LFI Tokyo requires the vaccinations that are compulsory in France : diphtheria-tetanus-poliomyelitis vaccine.

Financial settlement

SECRETARIAT GENERAL, FINANCIAL AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT FINANCIAL REGULATION

PREAMBLE 

The enrolment and maintenance of a student at the Lycée Français International de Tokyo is subject to the unreserved acceptance of the following texts:

The texts governing the functioning of the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) and in particular decree no. 2009-553 of 15 May 2009 relating to the administrative, budgetary and accounting organisation of the Agency for French Education Abroad;

The official texts published by the French Ministry of National Education governing school life (curricula, school rhythms, orientation, etc.);

The official texts issued by the Government of Tokyo governing Gakkô-Hojin;

The decisions of the Board of Directors of the Foundation;

The internal regulations of the school and its annexes;

The present financial regulations.

These texts and decisions may be modified at any time.

PRE-REGISTRATION AND REGISTRATION (1ST REGISTRATION FEE)

Pre-registration for the Lycée Français International de Tokyo begins when the school receives a pre-registration file via the EDUKA parents' portal. Enrolment is definitive upon receipt by the accounting department of the payment of the first enrolment fees, it being understood that the enrolment fee is final:

that the payment of the amount of the first registration fee before the accounting department sends the corresponding invoice will not be recognized by the school and will not, therefore, lead to the final registration;

that the payment of the first registration fee does not constitute a reservation of a place in the school beyond September 30th following the beginning of the school year;

that the first registration fee is non-refundable.

The first registration fee is due per child at the time of the first registration at the Lycée Français International de Tokyo or at the time of re-registration following a departure which has led to the student's dismissal.

Families who have applied for a scholarship are not required to pay the first registration fee before the official notification of the result of their scholarship application. In order to take this situation into account, they must contact the accounting department as soon as they pre-register. 

As the first registration fees are not refundable, for scholarship students, advance payments will be deducted when paying the 1st trimester tuition fees (see scholarship file). In this case, please inform the accounting department by email.

The payment of the first registration fees is tantamount to acceptance of the present financial regulations (payment by a third party employer or through the AEFE scholarship system is equivalent to a payment and is also tantamount to acceptance of the present financial regulations).

RE-REGISTRATION FEES

A pupil's re-enrolment for the following school year is effective subject to payment of the re-enrolment fee. These are invoiced each year during the April-June term. The re-enrolment fee is non-refundable.

TUITION FEES

Tuition at the Lycée Français International de Tokyo is not free of charge. The amount of the tuition fees is set each year and for one academic year by the Board of Directors of the Foundation in February. These fees are payable by trimester and within 21 days of receipt of the corresponding invoice, see the following breakdown:

September - December: 40% of the annual fee

January - March: 30% of the annual rate

April - June: 30% of the annual rate

Note that :

Any quarter commenced is due in full. 

In case of departure during the school year, the entire current term is due.

Professional transfers, academic difficulties or temporary exclusion from the school do not exempt those responsible from paying the quarterly school fees due. In case of arrival during the school year, the full term in which the pupil is enrolled is due.

No reinstatement is possible, either because of temporary absence from duty (absence of a teacher, sick leave not replaced by the teacher, participation in continuing education activities, statutory leave of absence authorisations, closure of the class, typhoon, normal exercise of the right to strike...) or because of the pupil's absence (illness, temporary exclusion...).
